Open Letter (Ohlone)

To the school with a tent near our site,
Thank you for letting us play Twister with you. Especially the girl dressed as a fairy who was challenging the undefeated Twister champion.

To all the guys from Bishop O'Dowd,
Why are you all so good-looking? Does your theater program have a rubric that involves symmetry of features or golden-ness of locks or height or muscular build or something?

To the Bishop O'Dowd boys who played Lysander and Demetrius,
Hot.

To the girl who won second place for women's contemporary dramatic monologues,
A baby develops in your womb, not your stomach. So stop rubbing your stomach.

This is what I did after Ohlone was over:

(I was in a really foul mood about college, mostly.)

Just clearing out the camera

Above, vest: aunt's, rescued from being given away. Black longsleeve: BP Nordstrom. Blue thermal longsleeve thing: Old Navy, gift. Dress: some tiny Asian store that closed down. Tights: generic. I think I wore this the day my drama teacher talked/forced me into making a presentation to the school site council as a representative of the drama program.

Above, longsleeve blue thermal thing: OldNavy, gift. Sweater: mother's. Jeans: Levi's. Socks: gift. This is possibly the most boring outfit ever. However, I do know that I wore this on the last school day before my UCLA interview. A sign of exhaustion. Unfortunately, it was also the day I had my portfolio reviewed by a couple art teachers at my school (since I haven't taken art), and I looked very un-artist-y.

Wow, look at my way-too-long hair. Wow, look at my awkward (nonexistent) neck. Button-down: brother's, Old Navy. Red bandana handkerchief thing: some Chinese dollar store. Jeans: Levi's 504. Tank top: OldNavy. Socklessness! Scary! Wore this to go to Utrecht to get art supplies or something. With these beat up shoes from Payless:

Above, I think they're, like, imitation Keds or something. They're a half-size too small, but I suck it up and wear them anyway. I love white tennis shoes that have been beat up and are slightly gray. I'm working on them.

Above, gray top: brother's, OldNavy. Shorts: Macy's clearance. Leggings: United Colors of Benetton. Socks: Target. Mmm, black, gray, and white. Mmm, comfort. Mmm, leggsposure.

Above, printed button-down: American Rag, Macy's. Poo-green cardigan: mother's, Old Navy. Tank top: somewhere in Haight Ashbury. Jeans: fire, Ross. Socks: Target.

I want a girl with good dividends

I want a girl with a short skirt and a lo(oooooo)ng jacket.

Above, zip-up hoodie: Old Navy. Dress: delia's. Printed thermal underneath: JC Penney. Black tights you cannot see but I know I am wearing: generic. Socks: gift. My drama teacher really liked my socks and wanted me and my scene partner to wear them to the competition. (Good thing we didn't.)

Above, day one of Ohlone College's High School Theater Competition. T-shirt: threadless (Secrets of Mensa). Black longsleeve: BP Nordstrom. Dress: aunt's, would have been thrown away. Tights: generic.

Above, day two. T-shirt: customink, specially printed for the competition (to anyone who attended, yes, I'm from that obnoxiously loud school. That won). Printed longsleeve: JC Penney. Floral slip: vintage. tights: generic.

so tired

My new favorite play: The Pink Fancy by Nick Zagone

To the cute Nevada Union boy who played Jose and placed for classical dramatic ensembles, you look good in pink. Excerpt:
JOSE: Well I’d like to help you out-but I’m lactose intolerant. I so much as look at a doughnut and I get gas.
So I am really tired, and I have noticed that short skirts get you a lot more attention.

drama is tiring

I mean the theater kind, not the teenage kind. Competition was today and continues tomorrow. I am tired out of my mind.

Awesome:GUH. BODY/BRAINDEAD.

baggalini

In preparation for college (okay, not really. I was going to the dentist (new dentist! For adults! Not children!) and passed by this store called kar'iktər (look! A schwa sound! I bought two pins from there before, authentic Prefect pins from prep schools in London, or something like that.) and was drawn in by the Tintin and Little Prince displays) I bought a laptop case.

Anyway, here are pictures of the laptop case/bag thing that I wasn't too keen on to start with but is growing on me, I think, from baggallini. Front, with my striped, sock'd feet:

Back:

Inside with flash:
The funny outside zipper pull, which is wavy:

The funny inside zipper pull, which looks kind of like a miniature weapon:

Yes, so that is my laptop case with compartments and funny zipper pulls for me to lug my laptop around in when I go to college. It's rather boring and (in my mind that makes it) borderline ugly, but I will live with it. And learn to love it.

The House of Mirth

Just finished reading The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton for school. If you haven't read it, don't bother reading this post.

Impressions:
  • I bet Selden was hot. (Lawrence Selden. Oh baby.)
  • In my head, Lily Bart looked an awful lot like Camilla Belle, and then halfway through she morphed into this delicate, waif-y, Keira Knightley-esque figure.
  • It felt super chick lit-y. But I liked the writing.
  • It was this close to cheese. --->||<---
  • I wish there were more vivid descriptions of the dresses.
  • It was kind of amusing how the antisemitism was both blatant and subtle.
  • With a name like Gerty, that's just asking for homeliness.
  • Looooove will save the day.
