Estee Lauders Double Wear

I can't help noticing that a lot of beauty bloggers rate Estee Lauders Double Wear as their Holy Grail foundation. When I'm reading posts about the best foundations (which I probably spend waaay too much time doing) there always seems to be more comments about Double Wear than any others…

It got me thinking that I should do a little review on it because it's a foundation I've used on n off for about five and a half years It was actually the first high end foundation I ever bought and I fell in love with it pretty much immediately. I'd called into Boots and the sales assistant at the Estee Lauder counter gave me makeover. I was so impressed that I bought the the foundation, concealer, lip gloss and makeup remover… Unfortunately I could never quite recreate the gorgeously flawless look she managed but I still adore the products! Me wearing Double wear today without concealer, powder or bronzer. Oh and I'm also wearing my new Accessorize eyeshadows which I really really like! :)

The first thing I noticed about Double Wear is that is goes on like paint. And not just any paint but one of those high quality one-coat-covers-everything paints that are totally goof proof. A teensy amount goes a very long way so my one and only complaint about this products is the bottle - it’s a regular glass bottle with a screw top lid which means you have to pour out the required amount of foundation. I can't even tell you how many times I've accidentally poured out too much and I hate wasting anything so find this really annoying!

I'd describe this as full coverage cos I can generally get away with using this over my entire face without bothering with concealer (yay!!) The finish is an almost powdery matte look but not that horrid unnatural "matte mask" that some foundations give. The application is easy but a little word of warning! - This sets quite quickly so if you like to spend a while slowly blending your foundation in different areas then I reckon you'd be best applying this in small sections to ensure it doesn't dry patchily

Talking of dry… When my skin has gone through dry phases in the past I've generally avoided this foundation as the thick texture and matte finish have a tendency to cling to flaky, dry areas. But of course the flip side of that means that if your skin is particularly oily this is totally fantastic for ensuring that you stay shine-free all day

At the minute I have this in 3 different shades (pale almond, ecru and fresco) which is pretty incredible in itself cos I generally find it extremely difficult to find foundations light enough to match my skin tone so the fact that I've been able to use 3 is awesome :)

As you can probably tell I rate this foundation really highly and would definitely recommend it for anyone who wants full long lasting coverage ♥

Quick fix for feet - Liz Earle

I definitely have a love/hate relationship with good weather! When my local weatherman said recently that it was gonna be sunny with very little chance of rain I couldn't help letting out a little cheer but it was only about a tenth of a second before I started thinking about my pasty white legs that haven't seen the light of day in about 6 months and my poor neglected feet which have been stuffed into thick socks and comfy boots all winter...

It's hard not to be a teensy bit jealous of those girls with a year round tan who are wise enough (and rich enough) to go for pedicures every other week… I generally leave things to the last minute so when I fancied wearing my gorgeous new Birkenstocks recently I had to go to town on my feet with a pumice stone, foot soak, foot cream, nail file and nail polish… although they looked a bit more respectable I certainly wont be getting requests to model toe rings or anklets any time soon During my little quest for perfect feet I came across a couple of superb products, one of which was the Liz Earle Foot Repair Mousturiser. This stuff is easily one of the best creams I've ever used; it smells deliciously invigorating, is quickly absorbed and left my feet feeling smooth as a babys bottom. Dunno about you but I've found that I don't really shop for specific foot products

I usually just impulse purchase the stuff based on my opinion of the rest of the stuff from the range, whatever is on sale or *shock horror* whatever has the cutest packaging From now on I reckon I'll put a little more thought into my foot care routine… Possibly starting by actually having a foot care routine :)

Bourjois Smokey Eyes Trios

As much as I love Myface, Urban Decay, Too Faced etc I hate paying £10-£15 for a single eyeshadow! I'm always on the lookout for fairly inexpensive but fantastic quality shadows that I can use to play around with, which is why I've been so impressed by these little Bourjous trios…

The colours are extremely pigmented but because they’re baked you can just touch your brush to the product and apply a little swipe of colour for a subtle look or build the colour for seriously smokey eyes! Oh and talking of colours they've only gone and combined 3 extremely complimentary shades so you can get a complete purple/green/brown/blue/silver (there’s 8 trio colour options in total) eye look for £7.99. Not too shabby :)

I hadn't actually noticed this before but I seem to have become a bit of a "makeup tool snob" and always chuck the little sponge applicators from these kinda sets straight into the bin. I'm not even sure why but I figured I could use the applicator with this one to see how well it worked and was well pleased with the end result!

I hate lugging around loads of products and tools if I'm heading out anywhere so if I can use the sponge applicator instead of my usual 3 makeup brushes it'll be dead handy!

hair envy: deux

It's been nearly a year since I last expressed my hair envy, but even though my hair's twice as long as it was then, I definitely still feel like I'm lacking something. (Interest. My hair lacks any point of interest.) Here are a bunch of hair pictures I've been gathering just to rub it in.

Beginning with natural-looking hair that could be achieved by someone with a hair texture different from mine. This is Joanna Bernacka, here to make your hair feel inadequate.

The mussed-up volume! The soft waves! The lived-in-ness!

Rumi's head in double braids (how is this even possible?), because there's something appealingly alien about really tight braids, especially in unexpected places.

Feather hair extensions. Not my style, but I'd be lying if I said that seeing it on other people didn't inspire major hair envy in me. Now, before we move into unnatural hair color territory, I'd just like to take a moment (or thirty) to let my hair envy bubble and splutter at the injustice of NOT HAVING HAIR LIKE THESE LADIES:

I was invited by Advertlets to be part of Krispy Kreme's latest addition launch, the ‘Nutty Buttery’ range and promotions on 22-March-2011.
